Tesco yellow sticker chaos as workers barricade discount shelf in ‘shopper apocalypse’

A Tesco staff has taken extreme measures to protect themselves from discount-hungry shoppers. Yellow sticker discounts have become hugely popular in all supermarkets – with supermarket goers often taking to social media to brag about their huge discounts on high priced food items.

But now the tables have turned, with someone claiming to be a member of Tesco’s shop floor staff posting a rather worrying image of themselves barricaded in by thick plastic yellow barriers. The image, posted on social media site Reddit, was accompanied by the caption: “Put barricades up during reductions (sick of customers getting in my face) and they still break in.”

The photo also showed the yellow sticker printer and hand scanner, as well as the back of a customer seemingly on the lookout for discounts. The comments section was quickly filled with similar horror stories from staff, with the original staffer calling it an “apocalypse”.

They said: “I legit feel like I’m in an apocalypse trying to barricade myself they lean over and grab things move it and try and come in like it says DO NOT ENTER?? I don’t mind passing a customer a item if they want to buy it, but lm not going out of my way to reduce it again.”

And another said: “I had this customer ask can I have a look at the cupcakes I literally said to them yes you can look at them once I’m finished marking down the products and to not move my yellow barriers – she wasn’t happy.”

A third recalled: “I used to do reductions during Covid, and my god it was bliss. Anyone acted up we just insta-banned them, and it is was very easy as we could use Covid laws as the excuse. I’d have the barriers out and the reduction mod would form an orderly queue or they’d be gone. Got rid of about 10 of our most annoying customers during this period.”

Many staffers claimed they actually do the reductions in the stock room, but others claimed that this was against company policy – to which the original staff members agreed but claimed that they “valued their life” more than the rules…
