Ruben Amorim informed he can revitalise Man Utd flop ‘let down’ by Erik ten Hag

Manchester United‘s Casemiro is set for a resurgence under the guidance of Ruben Amorim after being “let down” by Erik ten Hag.

That’s the verdict of former Red Devils star Louis Saha. Casemiro, who made a £70million switch from Real Madrid in 2022, initially impressed at Old Trafford, but the Brazilian midfielder saw his form dip alarmingly last season. Despite a rocky start this term, including being subbed off at half-time in the 3-0 drubbing by arch-rivals Liverpool in September, there’s optimism he’ll turn things around.

In a chat with Betfred, Saha backed Casemiro to rediscover his mojo and help United turn around their woeful Premier League season so far. He said: “Yes, I think so. You could see how much he was being exposed in Erik ten Hag’s system and ultimately, the tactics were wrong.

“Casemiro was being asked to do too much and it’s difficult for him to do well without the right players around him. It doesn’t matter how many trophies he’s won, he was going to struggle in that system.

“I believe he was let down. I’m a big defender of him because he never complains and he’s aware of when he’s not playing well,” reports the Express. “With the right balance in the midfield and the right positioning, we’re going to see Casemiro playing with a different dimension. He has the right quality and leadership that this Manchester United team needs.”

Casemiro is now proving his mettle again, contributing significantly with goals as showcased in the recent Carabao Cup thriller where the Red Devils steamrolled Leicester 5-2. However, the Brazilian star hadn’t always been receiving plaudits; Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend and pundit, had once advised him to end his stint in top-flight football.

Questioning Casemiro’s performances, Carragher notoriously said on Sky Sports: “I think Casemiro should know tonight that he should only have another three games left at the top level,” adding, “The next two league games and the [FA] Cup final, then he should be thinking, ‘I need to go to the MLS or Saudi’.”

Reflecting on a particularly rough patch for the midfielder, Carragher continued with his harsh criticism, telling Casemiro: “This has to stop because we are watching one of the greats of the modern time.
