Tesco launches ‘Christmas Tree Saturday’ with big sale in bid to carry ‘early cheer’
A huge half price Christmas Tree sale has been launched across the UK. According to the bosses at Tesco, “Christmas Tree Saturday” is something they want to make a reality in the UK as Brits are buying their trees earlier and earlier.
It’s nearly December so while super keen lovers of everything festive are probably already a week into decorating their homes, the rest of those who celebrate are just about beginning to turn their attention towards Christmas.
Naturally then, Britain’s blue and white branded supermarket chain is dropping the prices of their Nordmann Fir trees to just £15 for Clubcard holders, from around £50-£60.
All trees on sale are around 160-190cm tall, with smaller ones are being flogged for around £12.50. There is a third choice, which comes in a wicker basket and has lights on it for just £15.

Tesco Christmas tree buyer – yes, that is a real job – Victoria l’Anson said: “We wanted to bring shoppers some early Christmas cheer by offering these fantastic full size, non-drop Nordmann Fir trees at a fantastic price. Tesco has in recent years seen demand for Christmas trees start as early as the last Saturday in November.
“The trend is now so pronounced and widespread across the whole of the UK that we refer to it as Christmas Tree Saturday. The good news for shoppers buying early is that our British-grown non-drop Nordmann Fir trees are guaranteed to last across the festive season.”
The trees are grown for the supermarket by Europe’s largest Christmas tree wholesalers, Needlefresh, based in Foxhill, near Swindon in Wiltshire. Tesco is also selling ‘grow your own Christmas tree’ kits for £2 that are aimed at encouraging youngsters to learn and appreciate nature and growing in general.
The sale runs until December 12, and a Daily Star source has already spotted the major discounts in various Tesco branches a few days earlier than planned.
