Homebase places 74 shops up on the market as your native department could also be on the checklist

Homebase has put 74 stores up for sale with their futures at risk – and your local could be one of them.

The troubled chain is trying to find a buyer for the stores after a strict deadline of November 29 was set to sell them. If they don’t sell, the future of various stores will be at risk.

The DIY and garden retailer was waiting on around £5 million of tax rebates before collapsing into administration last week, it has been reported. Homebase appointed administrators at consultancy Teneo after it was hit hard by an “incredibly challenging” three years of trading.

But administrators struck a deal to sell the business to retail group CDS, which also owns The Range and Wilko, and meant securing the future of up to 1,600 jobs and 70 stores, reports MyLondon.

Administrators have now placed 74 leasehold Homebase stores on the market amid efforts to secure more funds for creditors. Homebase collapse came amid reports that banking giant Wells Fargo declined to extend the group’s lending facility due to concerns about its finances.

The PA news agency found that these concerns came as the retailer waited for around £5 million to be remitted back to it in tax rebates.
