Storm Bert claims first sufferer as man dies as automobile ‘spins off highway’ in lethal circumstances

A man tragically lost his life after his car spun off the icy road and smashed into a wall amid the freezing grip of Storm Bert. The 34-year-old died at the scene when his Renault Captur hit a stone wall in Shipley, West Yorks, in the early hours, just before 1am.

The Bradford man hasn’t been named yet, while police are still at the scene, investigating what happened as heavy snow continues to fall. It comes as the Met Office released an amber warning for ‘risk to life’.

A local who didn’t want to be named shared: “A loud crash woke me up in the middle of the night. When I looked outside, I could see the car had spun off the road and smashed into a wall. It was freezing last night and the road can be treacherous in icy conditions.
