Ruben Amorim conflict with Ed Sheeran sees Man Utd followers blast ‘disrespectful’ pop star

Fuming Manchester United fans blasted pop icon Ed Sheeran and accused him of disrespecting new manager Ruben Amorim.

Ipswich Town fan and shareholder Sheeran struggled to contain his excitement in the wake of his team’s 1-1 draw with United at Portman Road. Sheeran greeted Sky Sports pundits including Jamie Redknapp while Amorim was conducting a post match interview at the side of the pitch.

The singer was then asked about Ipswich’s performance, replying “I loved it, I love being back in the Premier League“, leaving Amorim looking less than impressed at being interrupted. United supporters have taken to social media to accuse Sheeran of being rude.

One fan wrote: “I don’t care who he is, but think this was so rude and disrespectful. Couldn’t he have just waited for the interview to finish?

Another supporter said: “I personally know a few people who have worked with Ed Sheeran, some of whom even attended my wedding. While I know he’s happy, this behaviour comes across as entitled and disrespectful. At the very least, wait until the interview is over.”

While another person commented: “Disrespectful. Interrupting an interview like that, lording it with the presenters just because you’ve sold a few records. Typical celebrity, anywhere a camera is set up, their face ends up on it.”

Amorim’s debut game in charge ended in a draw after Marcus Rashford scored early on but Omari Hutchinson replied with a stunning equaliser. Before he got cut off, Amorim acknowledged that turning things around at United won’t happen overnight.

He said: ” It’s a tough league. What you learn in the first moment, a good environment. I think my players were thinking too much during the game. You can feel it. It is a tough match. I think we lost some balls without pressure.

“When you start the game like this, you score one goal and then you have to control the ball, you have to control the tempo of the game. We cannot do it at the moment, but they tried, they really, really tried.

“I know for some guys it’s hard to understand this but they are really, really trying and they want this. They want this. Sometimes they don’t know how to get it, that was my feeling. We try to find things about the players, and we will need a lot of time to work out these things.”
