Woman, 19, rushed to hospital ‘with life-changing accidents’ after being hit by an unmarked police automobile ‘because it raced to emergency’
A 19-year-old woman has been rushed to hospital with life-changing injuries after being hit by an unmarked police car, it is understood.
The car was using blue lights and a siren at the time of the accident at around 6.30pm yesterday, according to Avon and Somerset Police.
The youngster was treated by emergency services at the scene before being rushed to hospital with injuries described as ‘potentially life-changing’, the force said.
The tragedy occured at a roundabout where the A4174 merges with Badminton Road in Emersons Green, a few miles north of Bristol.
The officers inside the police car were not injured in the collision and special support will be available to them.
As is standard procedure, the force said it has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over the ordeal.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: ‘Officers provided first aid to the pedestrian, a 19-year-old woman, alongside paramedics.
‘She was taken to hospital with injuries which are potentially life-changing.
‘Her next of kin are aware and we’ll be providing them with support.’
They added: ‘As is standard practice following an incident in which there’s been a serious injury following police contact, we’ve made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.’
