Jamie Carragher lists biggest Liverpool gamers of all time as he slams ‘egocentric’ Mohamed Salah

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has hailed Mohamed Salah as one of the top five legendary players to have graced Anfield, despite criticising him for being “selfish”.

Salah’s incredible tally of 223 goals in 367 appearances has secured his place as Liverpool’s fifth-highest all-time scorer, trailing only behind icons such as Ian Rush (346), Roger Hunt (285), Gordon Hodgson (241), and Billy Liddell (228).

Former Reds defender turned Sky Sports pundit Carragher placed the ‘Egyptian King’ among Liverpool elite, ranking the 32-year-old superstar alongside four of the best players British football has ever seen.

On Monday Night Football, he praised Salah saying: “I would say that Mo Salah is in the top five players to ever play for Liverpool.

The ex-centre-back added: “I would go Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush and I’d put Mo Salah in fifth position. That’s how highly I rate him. That’s how special this guy is.”

As contract talks appear to stall, Salah expressed his uncertainty over his Liverpool future after a brilliant display against Southampton, stating: “We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club,” and “I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years,” reports the Mirror.

Salah conveyed deep affection for the Reds, adding: “There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”

The goal machine added: “I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed but we will see.”

Yet, Carragher was far from pleased with Salah’s remarks, asserting: “I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night after the game when it comes out. Liverpool have got Real Madrid midweek and they’ve got Manchester City at the weekend.

“Which is his right which is absolutely fine but he decided to stop for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning the game and putting that out. The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season is not the future of Mo Salah, not the future of Virgil van Dijk and not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League, that is more important than any of those players. And if he continues to put comments out and his agent keeps putting cryptic tweets out, that’s selfish. That’s thinking about themselves and not the football club.”
