Travel chaos as Elizabeth Line down and extreme delays hit main London Tube traces
London’s morning rush hour descended into chaos as the Elizabeth Line ground to a halt with severe delays plaguing several of the capital’s key Tube lines. Today, swathes of the latest addition to London’s transport network are in limbo between Paddington and Abbey Wood due to a pesky signalling system fault, as revealed by Transport for London (TfL).
This setback is familiar territory for London commuters, triggering substantial hold-ups that spread to routes connecting Paddington, Heathrow, and Reading. Despite the disruption, TfL’s live updates assure that other sections of the line remain uninterrupted.
Passengers caught in the travel turmoil have been authorised to use their tickets across alternate services. To aggravate the morning misery, the Circle, District, and Hammersmith and City lines are gripped by severe slowdowns, while the Metropolitan line suffers more modest disturbances.

Diligent TfL updated distressed passengers on the Elizabeth Line situation, stating: “No service between Paddington and Abbey Wood while we fix a signalling systems fault. Valid tickets will be accepted on London underground services. Severe delays between Paddington, Heathrow Airport and Reading. Good service on the rest of the line.”
Meanwhile, the beleaguered District line confronts its own separate snarl-up stretching from High Street Kensington to Edgware Road, not courtesy of signalling mishaps but rather an overzealous fire alert at one station, leaving other segments of the line relatively unscathed, reports the Mirror.
TfL announced: “No service between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road while we respond to a fire alert at High Street Kensington. Good service on the rest of the line Valid tickets are being accepted on London buses.”
This alert has led to a complete suspension on the Circle line. The Hammersmith and City line is experiencing delays across the entire line due to “earlier power supply problems”, TfL reported, with valid tickets being accepted on London buses.
The Metropolitan line’s delays are due to train cancellations, causing issues between Moor Park and Amersham. While there is no confirmation yet on when these issues will be resolved, all other Tube lines are running as usual this morning, providing commuters with alternative routes for their morning journey.
