A white Christmas is wanting probably as heavy snow anticipated in components of the UK in December
A white Christmas is looking increasingly likely this year as the UK is set to be hit by heavy snowfall in mid-December.
The chilly conditions experienced in November are expected to continue into December, with up to 14cm of snow predicted to fall in parts of Scotland on the 11th.
A blanket of snow will also cover the rest of the UK, with Scotland facing the brunt of the extreme weather, while western areas of England and Northern Ireland can expect snow flurries throughout the day. On the 11th, snow will start to settle across a stretch of the UK from Inverness down to Manchester.

Most towns and cities between these two points will see a snow depth of 5cm from 12pm, with areas in mid Scotland witnessing a 14cm depth by 6pm. Western Wales, Northern Scotland, Northern Ireland and Plymouth can anticipate snow showers of up to 10cm per hour during the afternoon.
These snowy conditions will be accompanied by freezing temperatures, with December 11 kicking off with a frosty -2c in Western Scotland and the rest of the country waking up to temperatures between -1 and 0C at 6am. In England, the northernmost areas will face similar temperatures, with Newcastle and Manchester reaching just 1-3c.
Southern England will be slightly milder, with temperatures ranging from 5-7c in the southwest, while London will start December 11 with a chilly 3c. Wales and Northern Ireland can expect a similar range of 3-6c, reports the Express.
Low pressure systems are driving the blustery and icy conditions, with an Atlantic surge of wintry weather on the way.
The Met Office has forecasted that southern and eastern regions will generally be drier, although they may experience some rainfall. From Thursday 12th, the weather is set to remain quite unsettled with wetter and windier conditions sweeping across the country, along with a continued risk of snow.
