Horror as boy, 2, is hit by a automobile and killed in Durack State School carpark

A two-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a car inside a school carpar. 

The horror incident happened at Durack State School, at Inala Avenue, in Brisbane‘s south-west, around 3.30pm on Thursday. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the boy suffered serious injuries, but despite the best efforts of paramedics he could not be saved.  

Queensland Police said in a statement are at the scene and are conducting inquiries into the incident. 

‘An investigation has commenced, and a woman is assisting police with their inquiries,’ police said in a statement.

The toddler is understood to have been struck by the car in the school car park, the Courier Mail reports.

The newspaper reports that a coronial van arrived at the school at 6.22pm. 

The families of students have been allowed to pick their children up after hours.

The tragedy occurred at Durack State School (pictured) on Inala Avenue in Brisbane's outer-southwestern suburbs about 3.30pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit is currently at the scene. Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact police.

Images from the scene showed multiple police vehicles and an ambulance parked inside the school grounds. 

A woman was seen being comforted by another woman next to the ambulance vehicle.

Durack State School was opened in 1960 under the name Serviceton State School before it was renamed in 2001. 

The school is known for its multiculturalism among students, who speak many languages.
