Ruben Amorim says Man Utd star is their ‘future’ and is the ‘type of participant we’d like’
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has hailed defender Noussair Mazraoui as “the kind of player they need”.
The Moroccan full-back has started both of Amorim’s games in charge of United, operating as a right-sided centre-back in a back three. Defensively, the 27-year-old was superb in their 3-2 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt – winning six of seven duels, making three clearances and winning five tackles.
However, his most impressive moment from the Europa League match saw him provide a sensational assist for Rasmus Hojlund to level the game at 2-2. Intercepting a loose pass, Mazraoui danced his way past a couple of defenders before putting a cross in for the Danish striker.

The 21-year-old took the cross down with his left foot before producing an excellent finish with his right. And following the impressive performance, Amorim described the United full-back as “our future.”
“He’s an incredible player, he’s our future,” said Amorim, as per Fabrizio Romano. “He played in different positions, he looks always fresh but we have to be careful. There’s a lot of games but he’s here to stay. This kind of player is what we need.”

Given the outlay United spent during the Erik ten Hag era, which saw the club spend just over £600million on new players, the past summer signing of Mazraoui looks as though it could be one of the best deals they have done in years.
Joining United from Bayern Munich, Mazraoui cost an initial £12.8m – with a further £4.3m in potential add-ons. And given his ability to play in multiple positions, he could become a key figure in Amorim’s new look United.
The Moroccan can play in both full-back positions, as a wing-back on either side, at centre-back, or even in midfield.
