As Christmas lights are being switched on across the country this weekend, everyone will be hoping to see a beautifully decorated tree lit up in their town.

It’s a monumental job organising a Christmas tree and sometimes residents end up disappointed with trees barely bigger than a twig, lopsided and falling over, or completely even completely bare.

Last year, the tree erected in Hattersley, Manchester was crowned number one in the top ten worst trees by Christmas tree company Pines and Needles.

Is this the worst town tree in the UK with its droppy branches?

This shocker of a tree in 2023 was branded a “disgrace” by disappointed locals, who called it “half dead” and likened it to a twig.

Grimsby’s 2018 tree was second place. Their baby tree was “embarrassing” to residents who said the trees in their living rooms were bigger than the one in town.

2018 was the year for festive flops as that years tree in Tylesdley Greater Manchester was given third place in the rankings.

The “half dead” tree had only a handful of decorations to give it some life.

Looking more like a beanpole than a Christmas tree, Crosby residents were not impressed

People were very unimpressed with Crosby’s weird-looking skinny tree in 2019. Expecting a big juicy tree, locals were dumbfounded when the pride of place in town had a very tall but incredibly slim tree.

At least an effort was made in Ottery St Mary in 2017 when a twiggy tree was spruced up with a bit of tinsel and baubles, but it was named in the top five. It was sourced by a “hard-working” old man in his eighties, who was trying his best to bring some seasonal cheer to his ungrateful community, reports at the time said.

Although it doesn’t look the greatest, effort went in to spruce up this tree

At number six is another 2018 treat, barely peaking over the barrier that protects it, this tree from Muswell Hill had to make the list.

Cardiff’s Christmas tree in 2016 was late to the light switch on due to shipping issues and it was not worth the wait. Their alternative take on the tree was not up to crowds standards.

Out of the box artsy style was not what the people wanted

Camborne’s outside the box Christmas tree in 2017 was ranked number eight. Nicknamed an “upside-down Cornetto” the structure was repeatedly vandalised and even had its star stolen.
