I’m A Celebrity camp hit by the worst rain in present’s historical past as three metre floods trigger chaos for Ant and Dec and manufacturing employees

The I’m A Celebrity camp has been hit by the worst rain in the show’s 22 year history with three metre floods causing chaos as the entrance to the Jungle was cut off by cascading water.

The show’s longtime host, Ant McPartlin, 49, said: ‘The rain has been really bad, it’s probably the worst rain we’ve ever had doing this show.

‘It was touch and go, we nearly didn’t make it into the camp.’

Declan Donnelly showed footage taken on his phone of their car struggling to get over the bridge into camp that had water cascading over it.

The 49-year-old said: ‘This was our journey into today, it was pretty full on and we got into the camp later than we usually do so it was a bit of a scramble getting the show on air today.

‘I hope you didn’t notice, actually we probably made fewer mistakes than we usually do.’

With rivers connected to the camp bursting their banks and farms in the surrounding area of Dungay submerged in three-metre floods – the stars in the camp were drenched.

Love Island star, Maura Higgins, on Saturday night’s episode, said: ‘I’ve slept in the rain, my bed is just soaking.’

Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse added: ‘It has been raining again in camp and it’s affecting everyone’s mood.’

It comes after a camp insider told MailOnline: ‘The jungle camp cannot cope with this level of rain and the thing is, when it rains like this, it’s not fun for anyone involved. In fact, it’s miserable. It dampens the mood and ultimately ruins the show.’

When it rains this heavily, campmates usually hide in the Bush Telegraph – the hut in which they speak to the camera – to shelter from the majority of the rain.

Though there is a retractable canopy 50 ft in the air above the camp, preventing the stars from getting soaked and keeping the campfire lit, it does not cover the whole of the camp.

The ITV series’ longtime hosts, Ant and Dec, both 49, revealed drips slide off the canopy and fall on the celebrities as they sleep.

Continuous rainfall takes a toll on the campmates’ morale, as last year’s food critic Grace Dent, 51, and Britney Spears’s sister, Jamie-Lynn, both left the show early.

It was later revealed that Ms Spears had left after the campmates had been forced to spend hours hiding in the cramped Bush Telegraph hut due to the severe wet weather.

If the current conditions continue it’s likely the celebrities could be evacuated as a safety precaution as seen in previous years.
