Sticky Vicky’s legacy lives on in daughter who attracts big Brit crowds in Benidorm

It’s a year since Benidorm lost its legendary act, Sticky Vicky but she is far from forgotten.

Her daughter, Sticky Vicky 2.0 – whose real name is Maria Gadea Aragues – is filling the void left on the Spanish island’s entertainment scene and is proving just as popular among Brits.

She claims her show has fresh tricks which she refers to as “art.” Her late mum – the original Sticky Vicky – passed away last year at the age of 80 after a unique career featuring exotic dances, X-rated performances and raunchy magic tricks on stage.

Maria, 42 has continued on with the show at Benidorm’s Palladium, which starts with collage of old photos of her late mum, The Sun reports.

She told the publication: “It’s not a “sexy magic show, it’s more artistic..

“It’s more popular with women. For them is nice and funny.

“The people are different on the weekends, it’s big groups for parties, it’s crazier.

“But in cabarets, it’s more quiet, it’s like old Benidorm.”

Maria reflected on the changes in the industry since her mum burst on to the scene.

“Now it’s mostly young people with a different mentality, Internet mentality, TikTok mentality,” she said.

“Now it’s more discos, crazy parties, more erotic shows and not artistic shows.”

Maria believes her famous mum would be proud of her and would encourage her to continue her work.

Sticky Vicky – whose real name was Victoria María Aragüés Gadea – became a legend in Benidorm after moving to Spain in the 1980s.

In her heyday, she performed at the Costa Blanca resort which was nicknamed Little England because of the number of British tourists it attracted.

She spent 30 years performing wild tricks and built up a cult following, with fans travelling thousands of miles to see her world-famous routines. It is estimated six million people have seen her show since she started it in the mid-70s and did not retire until 2016 aged 72.

Her daughter said copycat entertainers tried to profit from her mum’s career and she endured some legal battles.

She was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2017.

The Benidorm star died aged 80 after suffering heart failure in hospital on November 29, 2023.

Speaking to the Daily Star last year, Maria remembered watching her mum’s bonkers routine as a girl and said: “I liked the show and I had no idea I could do something like that.

“I remember she was super shy and worried about what I would think. I told her that I loved seeing her and I liked her show. It never turned out for me to see her do a daring routine, my mind was already open and very mature.”
