BREAKING Major searched launched as man, 72, goes ‘overboard’ on cruise ship
A major search has been launched after a cruise ship finished a round trip to find a passenger was missing. Officials have said that the 72-year-old American man was nowhere to be seen when the Ruby Princess ship arrived in San Francisco at 6.50am on Monday, at the end of a five-day voyage to Mexico that began on November 27.
A search was immediately launched but he has not been found more than 24 hours. The identity of the man has not been made public, bar his age, and he was said to have been travelling alone.
Speaking to the New York Post, a spokesman for the cruise line said: “Princess worked throughout the day with local authorities. CCTV footage has also been extensively reviewed and the ship was searched thoroughly several times without success.
“Having ruled out other possibilities, this is being treated as a man overboard incident. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the guest who was travelling alone.”
