Brits’ high 10 driving residence for Christmas songs revealed however motorists given warning
From Wham! and Sinatra, drivers reveal their top ten favourite festive hits to put on the radio while drive home to their families – as keeping in tradition with Chris Rea
December marks festive events such as mulled wine, mince pies, nativity plays – and busy motorways. They say the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear, and that’s reflected in a recent study which found Brits’ favourite Christmas anthem to drive home to.
Unsurprisingly, a good Christmas tune pulls many through the stressful commute home. Whether a short trip home, or even further, thousands of us make our way back to our families to the backtrack of jingle bells or a collection on popstars from the 1980s.
The full list of which songs take the top spot have been completed. However, experts warn that the jolly music could be a distraction to a bigger issue this winter.

Car dealers Motorway have revealed the top ten tunes. However, most surprisingly, Mariah Carey just missed the top ten, with motorists favouring some old-fashioned music.
The top spot is exactly what you’d expect, with Chris Rea’s track proving the most popular. The literal drivers like to get in the mood one their way down the motorway with the classic track, Driving Home for Christmas.
The rest off the top ten is as follows:
- “Driving Home for Christmas”, Chris Rea
- “Last Christmas”, Wham!
- “Merry Xmas Everybody”, Slade
- “All I Want for Christmas is You”, Mariah Carey
- “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, Band Aid
- “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”, Michael Bublé
- “White Christmas”, Bing Crosby
- “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, Brenda Lee
- “Jingle Bell Rock”, Bobby Helms
- “Silent Night”, Frank Sinatra
While these jolly tunes will keep drivers in the festive mood, experts warn it could distract from a wider issue. Chris Jevons, a car repair specialist from JTAPE, says drivers do not wash their car enough, leaving the exterior up for potential damage.

He revealed: “During winter, it’s important to wash your car at least every two weeks, but ideally weekly if you live in areas with heavy snow and salt usage.
“Road salt, debris, and other winter contaminants can accumulate on your vehicle’s surface and undercarriage, leading to rust and corrosion, especially in the wheel wells and brake components. Dirt and salt can also create a breeding ground for moisture, intensifying the corrosion process. It’s also important to clean the underside of your car, as trapped salt and dirt can cause unseen damage over time.”
