Brits need to be ‘danger takers’ in 2025 as prime New Year’s resolutions revealed

More than quarter of Brits are planning to step out of their comfort zone after Christmas, it has been revealed. With interests in nature and the outdoors (49%), curiosity about different cultures (42%) and improving mental wellbeing (39%) driving them, 2025 is set to be a year of risk-taking.

However, new research from OnePlus reveals that despite 41% identifying as adventure-seekers, 53% of Brits can’t fulfil these dreams due to financial constraints (46%), lack of time (35%) and fear of the unknown (34%). To encourage exploration, global tech brand OnePlus is launching a unique Explorer’s Adventure Calendar.

Valued at a staggering £25,000, the only cost OnePlus is asking consumers to pay is a willingness to explore. That’s right, it’s free.

OnePlus has launched it’s mysterious new advent calender . . . for free

This may be an advent calendar, but don’t be fooled, this isn’t a countdown to Christmas, but rather a countdown to your new era of exploration. Behind 12 of the calendar’s 13 doors will be an exciting adventure, spread across ten days in Iceland – the ultimate winter wonderland.

These include, but are not limited to:.

  • Snorkelling between Tectonic Plates: Get up close and personal with the Earth’s crust as you dive into the gap between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
  • Sky Lagoon: Soak in the tranquil Sky Lagoon, with views over the dramatic Atlantic Ocean.
  • Lava Tunnel: Experience Iceland’s volcanic power firsthand by exploring a tunnel carved out by molten lava.
  • Supertruck Excursion to The Valley of The Gods: Embark on a winter adventure to Þórsmörk Valley, home to majestic glaciers, lush valleys, and peaceful rivers.
  • Whale Watching: Keep your eyes peeled for minke and humpback whales, harbour porpoises, and white-beaked dolphins, all set against a backdrop of abundant birdlife.

Behind door number 13 is a brand new OnePlus 13 handset, a top-of-the-range smartphone designed to unleash your inner explorer. This comes as no surprise, given that 89% of consumers believe a smartphone is essential for any adventure.

Indeed, 65% use emergency contact and safety features, navigation and GPS capabilities (63%), and weather updates and alerts (57%). The OnePlus 13, which will be released in the UK early next year, is a blend of cutting-edge innovation, swift and seamless performance, and AI, all wrapped up in an elegant, eye-catching design. It will be available in three striking colours – Black Eclipse, Arctic Dawn, and Midnight Ocean.

Notably, the Midnight Ocean variant of the OnePlus 13 will be the first phone to feature micro-fibre vegan leather, designed to offer a luxurious feel while resisting scratches and scuffs. The Black Eclipse model boasts a sophisticated black rosewood grain glass process, revealing a remarkably realistic wood grain texture that feels delicate and refined.

The Arctic Dawn edition introduces an industry-first surface-based glass coating, offering a comfortable, silky smooth touch and a fingerprint-resistant surface for a pristine appearance. It’s the first OnePlus phone to secure an IP68 + IP69 rating, making it an ideal adventure companion for users who demand exceptional resilience from their everyday devices.

The 5th Gen Hasselblad Camera for Mobile is set to revolutionise portrait photography, and the OnePlus 13 is upping the game in mobile videography with all cameras boasting 4K Dolby Vision – making your favourite adventures look like they’re straight out of Hollywood. But hold onto your hats, folks – there’s more to come as we gear up for the global launch of the OnePlus 13 in January 2025.

OnePlus Europe’s Chief Marketing Officer, Celina Shi, gushed: “Our goal with the launch of the Explorer’s Adventure Calendar was to create something that would inspire adventure and empower budding explorers to head out on the journey they’ve already dreamt of. ” She added, “Following hot on the heels of this launch will be the OnePlus 13, a handset created for the explorers. With incredible features built to withstand even the most rugged adventure, the OnePlus 13 will be the perfect companion you need to create magical memories, in rain, snow or shine.”
