Detectives arrest two males over murders of lacking British father and son who vanished in Malaga 5 years in the past
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a British father and son in Spain five yeas ago.
Daniel Poole and son Liam, who were from the west Sussex town of Burgess Hill, were last seen visiting Malaga in 2019.
The pair’s case has been treated as a murder probe by Sussex Police since 2022.
Father Daniel, then 46, and son Liam, then 22, hired a grey Peugeot 308 when they arrived in the Spanish city of Malaga on March 31, 2019.
However, local authorities later found the vehicle abandoned, with their luggage and passports still left at their hotel.
The men were reportedly staying at the Valle Romano Hotel, after arriving in Estepona on for what was supposed to be a six-day holiday.
Daniel’s wife, Tara Poole, told The Olive Press at the time of their disappearance that: ‘This is completely out of character for them. They never have their phones off and always keep in touch – we are so worried.’
Daniel Poole, 46, left, and his son Liam, 22, from Burgess Hill, West Sussex, flew to Malaga on March 31, 2019, and hired a car for a six-day road trip
Daniel Poole, also referred to as ‘Danny’, was 46 years old at the time of his disappearance
Liam Poole was aged just 22 at the time of disappearance back in March of 2019
The father and son had been staying at the Valle Romano Hotel in Malaga along Spain’s Costa del Sur
Now, over five years later, two British men have been arrested in the Sussex Police-led investigation.
One of the arrested men is in his 30s and from West Sussex, while the other is a man in his 40s from the Merseyside area.
Both men were questioned and then later released pending further inquiries, the force said.
The pair’s arrests come just mere weeks after detectives offered up a £10,000 reward for anyone with information pertaining to the case.
Speaking to the arrests, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Dunn said: ‘Although Danny and Liam went missing in Spain, we believe there are people in the UK who may hold vital information about their disappearance.
‘We understand there may be some who have felt unable to come forward before now, but it’s not too late to do the right thing.
‘You may not appreciate the importance of the information you have, but it could be the piece of the puzzle we need to build the picture of what happened to Danny and Liam.’
