Luke Humphries and Shaun Murphy conflict in ‘did you hear what I mentioned’ darts vs snooker row
Luke Humphries turned darts defender on Wednesday evening.
The reigning World Champion joined forces with Michael van Gerwen as they helped Paddy Power decided what’s tougher: a nine-darter, a 147 snooker break or a hole-in-one. And after a turn at the oche, Humphries was asked what he believes is harder.
“I think if you’re an amateur,” Humphries started as Van Gerwen stepped up to throw, “you don’t play snooker, you don’t play golf, you don’t play darts; you give them a snooker cue, some darts and a golf club. I think they’d do the hole-in-one first.

“The nine-darter second and then the 147 last – I think that would be harder. But to a professional, I think a nine-darter is harder than a 147.”
That prompted laughter from snooker stars Mark Williams and Shaun Murphy, who were attempting 147’s from the across the room. “I didn’t know you were a comedian too,” Murphy shouted as Van Gerwen hit back: “No one was joking!”

“What’s funny about that,” Humphries fumed. As Murphy hit back: “Well a 147 is harder than a nine-darter, a nine-darter is not harder!
“Did you hear what I said though,” Humphries responded, bluntly.
He continued: “When you know all the angles, in my opinion, you’ve seen you two…Mark’s come close already! That’s my opinion when you’re a professional you make it look easy to hit a 147.
“Stats show it too. In frames and legs of darts there are more 147’s than nine-darters.”
Humphries was proved correct. Murphy would hit a 147, after coming agonisingly close 20 minutes beforehand, to become the first sportsperson from their respective sport to achieve perfection on Wednesday afternoon.
