Man feared to have gone overboard on ship hasn’t been noticed on any CCTV

A man who is feared to have gone overboard on a cruise ship has not be seen on any CCTV after a major investigation was launched. The 72-year-old American man was no where to be found on the Princess Ruby when it docked in San Francisco on Monday after a five-day round trip to Mexico.

Staff searched the 3,000 person capacity ship after it became clear they were missing a passenger. The missing man, who was travelling alone, has not been identified.

It comes as a stunning British model was kidnapped from a Brazilian restaurant last week. When the man still had not been identified by nearly 6pm on Monday, the Coast Guard discussed suspending the search until more information emerges.

Two air crews were deployed to an area 45 miles off the coast of Monterey but neither could locate any trace of the man.

Hunter Schnabel of the Coast Guard said: “What information we have to go off kind of does make it a little more difficult. To search a wide area of the ocean does take a lot of time and there is a lot that goes into that.”

Speaking to the New York Post, a spokesman for the cruise line said: “Princess worked throughout the day with local authorities. CCTV footage has also been extensively reviewed and the ship was searched thoroughly several times without success.

“Having ruled out other possibilities, this is being treated as a man overboard incident. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the guest who was travelling alone.”

And in another statement, this time to the public, a spokesman said: “Princess Cruises is saddened to report that a 72-year-old American male is believed to have gone overboard earlier today ahead of the arrival of Ruby Princess into San Francisco.”
