Punter thought they’d received £17k on Lotto scratchcard then discovered true prize at counter

Someone is set for a cracker of a Christmas after scooping a massive €200k on a Lotto scratchcard. The punter was left in utter disbelief, initially thinking they’d won a tidy €20,000, (£16.5k) only to find out the prize was actually tenfold.

Opting for anonymity, the lucky winner purchased their golden ticket at Roche’s Service Station and Day Today store in Whitechurch, and recently collected their fortune from Lotto HQ in Dublin.

The moment of truth came when they rang up the Lotto’s prize claims team. A staff member named Martin queried if they knew how much they’d won.

When they guessed ‘€20k’, Martin dropped the bombshell: “No, that’s not correct.”

It was a good day to buy a scratchcard for the anonymous winner who we’re sure has similarly lovely nails

After a heart-stopping pause, he revealed: “The scratch card you’re holding is actually worth €200,000! ” The winner, who’ll never forget that epic reveal, stashed the ticket in their attic insulation for safekeeping. With no grand plans yet, they’re just looking to have an ‘extra-special Christmas’, reports Cork Beo.

This latest win is the second big Lotto prize claimed in the Rebel County in recent days – after a Cork woman claimed €100k on a Christmas scratch card that had been sitting in her a handbag for two weeks. She confessed: “I bought the scratch card almost two weeks ago and had forgotten about it – it was buried at the bottom of my handbag. Last weekend, I decided to clear out my bag, and that’s when I found the unscratched card, so I got a coin and scratched it. I screamed with excitement when I matched three fireplaces, which meant I’d won the top prize; I was in total shock! “.
