Top healthcare boss fatally shot outdoors Hilton Hotel in 7am ‘focused assault’
UnitedHealthcare’s CEO Brian Thompson was reportedly shot in the chest on Wednesday (December 4) in midtown Manhattan, New York, and has died as a result of his injuries.
Thompson, 50, was shot outside the Hilton Hotel just after 6:45am this morning after travelling for the annual UnitedHealthcare investor conference. According to the New York Post a man wearing a mask approached him and fired repeatedly. The healthcare boss was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Cops told the publication they believe Thompson was targeted in the attack. The outlet also highlighted the gunman reportedly knew which door Thompson was going to enter before shooting him several times from mere feet away and then fleeing.

Witnesses told the New York Post the masked man was seen milling around 6th Avenue near the vicinity of the hotel. After carrying out the shooting, the masked man then fled through the Ziegfeld alleyway and hopped on a bike to escape.
Andrew Witty, CEO of parent company UnitedHealth Group, said the firm had been holding the Investor Day conference at the hotel on Wednesday (December 4). However the event was abruptly called off due to “a very serious medical situation”.
Police have said that no arrests have been made yet, with an investigation now ongoing.
Prior to his role as CEO at UnitedHealthcare which started in April 2021, Thompson served as CEO of UnitedHealthcare government programmes which included medi-care and retirement, according to the company. Before he lead these programmes, Thompson served as CEO of UnitedHealthcare medi-care and retirement. He joined the UnitedHealthcare Group in 2004.
