Major style model to shut all UK shops in new excessive avenue blow – see full checklist
A popular fashion chain, owned by H&M, has announced they’re closing all of their physical shops across the UK.
Monki, a clothing shop aimed primarily at teens and young adults, will close all of their stores. Currently they have seven shops, including one in London Carnaby Street, but will close their doors for the last time soon. With Christmas just three weeks away, the shock announcement delivers another blow to the high street, which is struggling in recent years.
According to the PwC, since September an average of 38 stores are closing per day. Monki will join these numbers, although owner H&M have not given shoppers and official closing date.

It’s not totally over for fans, however, as this closing is part of a wider move to merge stores owned by H&M. When reopened, the previous Monki stores will also feature another fashion brand Weekday, also owned by H&M.
An official statement from H&M revealed their plans: “A limited number of Monki stores are intended to be transformed into multi-brand Weekday destinations, while the others are intended to be closed.

“The newly formed Weekday multi-brand destination will cater to customers’ high aesthetic standards, while embracing their multitude of unique expressions. Being mindful about the changes this might entail for our colleagues; we look forward to this exciting new chapter on the way to something great.”
Their plans will also revive another closed store. H&M announced one of their brands, Cheap Monday, will also be available in the newly-opened stores.
Cheap Monday was previously on a six-year hiatus, disappointing edgy Gen-Z shoppers. It was taken off the shelves due to poor sales.
Weekday currently has five stories across the UK and also targets a younger consumer. Shoppers can currently buy the brand online via their retail website.
H&M have no officially announced when the doors are closing or when they’re expected to reopen. However, they have reassured customers that the stores are currently open and ready for shoppers.
The full list of Monki stores is as follows:
- London – Carnaby St, Soho
- Bristol – Cabot Circus, Concorde St
- Birmingham – High Street
- Sheffield – 108 Pinstone Street
- Manchester – Arndale Centre
- Newcastle – St Andrews Way
- Glasgow – Buchanan Galleries
