Mohamed Salah has been congratulated on signing a new contract with Liverpool by former Egypt defender Haytham Farouk.
The Reds star’s contractual situation with the Anfield club has been a hot topic of discussion this season, with his current deal set to expire at the end of June.
Salah, who has been in incredible form at the start of the campaign with 13 goals and eight assists in 14 Premier League matches, made headlines in last week when he claimed he had not been contacted over a new contract and admitting he was ‘disappointed’ by the state of talks.
Recent reports claimed that the 32-year-old, who is just three goals shy of becoming the fourth-highest scorer in Liverpool history, would be willing to pen a one-year deal in order to extend his stay.
However, Farouk, who played for Egypt between 1993 and 1999, has claimed that the Reds star has agreed a new deal with Arne Slot‘s side.
‘Congratulations on renewing your contract with the number you like and the period you want.’ Farouk, who is also a popular analyst on beIN Sports wrote on X. ‘The Egyptian king rules with his own judgments.’

Arne Slot appeared to drop a hint that the 32-year-old would remain at the club beyond the summer
The news has excited Reds supporters, who have been fearful of the club legend leaving on a free transfer in the summer despite showing no signs of slowing down.
Salah’s stunning brace in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Newcastle saw him climb to the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts and even prompted former Jamie Carragher to beg club chiefs to pay the forward ‘what he wants’, despite arguing the opposite just days earlier.
‘Goal! The Redmen are back,’ Carragher said in a watchalong with the Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet. ‘Mo Salah. Give him what he wants, give him what he wants. Why don’t they just give him the contract?! Give them [Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah] what they want. Come on.’
Salah’s display at St James’ Park, which also included an assist, meant that he broke Wayne Rooney’s record for the most Premier League games where he has scored and assisted with a whopping 37. The Egyptian has played 214 fewer matches than the former England striker.
Liverpool boss Slot said that he expects Salah to continue scoring for the club for a ‘long time’ after his double in midweek, in what was seen as a major hint to his future.
‘Every time we need him he scores an important goal. We are hoping and expecting that he can continue this for a long time.’ The Dutchman said. ‘He is in a very good place, in a very good team that provides him with opportunities.
‘And what makes him even more special is in the first hour he was not playing his best game and then he comes up with an assist, two goals, a shot against the bar. Special player and an outstanding performance.’
News of a breakthrough in negotiations with Salah come just a day after a report claimed that the Anfield club have offered captain Virgil van Dijk a new contract. The Dutchman, along with Salah and vice captain Alexander-Arnold, are all out of contract at the end of the term.
According to The Athletic, the Reds have taken their first steps at attempting to keep the trio of stars by offering the Dutchman a fresh deal.
The outlet claim that Liverpool have tabled an opening bid to keep the 33-year-old beyond June – however it fell short of his expectations and there’s been no major breakthrough.
