Robbie Williams wins battle to chop down fungus-riddled tree at his £17.5m dwelling – however is given a catch by the council

Robbie Williams has won a battle to cut down a fungus-riddled tree at his £17.5million home.

The artist was given the go-ahead to fell the towering tree at his lavish house after telling council bosses it was diseased.

He was given the green light even though a local opposed the move.  

However, in turn, the artist has been told to plant a tree in its replacement.

A Liriodendron tulipifera or an alternative agreed species of 20 to 25cm girth should be planted as a replacement, The Sun reports.

The local authority said if the tree is removed outside of planting season – between November 1 to March 31 – then Williams should wait until the next window.

It comes after the British singer sold his Los Angeles mansion for £51.6million ($65m) 

The authority added that if within five years of planning, the replacement tree is removed or is seriously dangerous then it should be replaced in the next planting season.

However, residents were not happy with this, with one objection saying: ‘There is no explanation as to why this tree need be felled, only a series of photos showing parts of it are damaged.’

The artist has previously chopped down a number of trees in the property.

Another person said: ‘Mr Williams has already been granted permission to chop down several trees at his property and now another seems likely to fall victim to his wishes.

‘How many more does he wish to eradicate from his property? Trees are our friends and not our enemies. We must love them – and not to take an axe to them.’

It comes after the British singer sold his Los Angeles mansion for £51.6million ($65m).

He purchased the huge property, which sits on 1.95 acres, in uber-rich Holmby Hills for £39.3million in March 2022. 

The three-house estate features eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, pool and tennis court, plus an impressive garage that holds 15 luxury cars, all spanning over 18,900 sq ft.

Dubbed the ‘Funny Girl’ Estate, the property was originally constructed in 1938 for the renowned comedian Fanny Brice.
