Fiery supervisor’s ‘ugly, useless relative and f*** you’ feuds with Guardiola, Tuchel and Arteta
Former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao had plenty of bust-ups over his career, including some of the Premier League‘s top bosses.
Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta and Thomas Tuchel have all been on the receiving end of a Conceicao outburst, with his post-match confrontation with Arsenal boss Arteta leading to Conceicao accusing the Gunners chief of mocking one of his deceased relatives.
Arteta denied the accusation made by the former Lazio and Inter Milan star, who turned 50 last month, but that is just the tip of the iceberg where the pumped up former Portugal international is concerned.

Here, Daily Star Sport has a look back at some of Conceicao’s other tantrums against the great and the good of world football.
Angry with Arteta
In his post-match press conference after Porto’s Champions League loss to Arsenal, Conceicao said: “Mikel Arteta turned to the bench during the game and insulted my family in Spanish. At the end, I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us.
“Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better.” Arsenal denied Arteta made insulting comments about the Portuguese boss’ family, and Arteta refused to go into any more detail, replying: “No comment, thank you very much,” when asked a follow up question on the matter.
Gored by Guardiola
After City overcame Porto in the Champions League, Conceicao spat venom in the direction of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss. “I’ve got a lot to learn from Pep Guardiola, in the way he pressures referees, talks to opposition players and the opposition dugout,” the Porto coach said. “He’s a fantastic example. I have to learn this. We were angels compared to the other dugout.
“He spoke about our country using ugly words. Guardiola’s attitude was extremely unpleasant. The whole Manchester City dugout was. If anybody should have been complaining, it was the Porto bench, because we were extremely hard done by.”
Guardiola almost laughed when the accusations were put back to him, saying: “I don’t agree. Maybe he can say it because it’s his opinion, but I don’t agree for the fact we pressure the referees. It’s not the way we [do it] and history speaks for ourselves. We are not this type of team to do this, honestly. I would admit it [if it was the case].”
Tetchy with Tuchel
At the end of their Champions League quarter-final clashes, Tuchel and Conceicao had to be separated from each other after their clash. Seemingly not one to lose with much grace, Conceicao said. “I was insulted by this man who is next door. I told the referee that the fourth official heard the insults. My English is not perfect, there is no point in talking about it.
“There was no exchange of words because I was focused on the game, I don’t know why he reacted. But I didn’t understand it very well. I heard some insults, but it’s gone… it’s not pretty and my irritation in the end had to do with it. I didn’t even speak to him.”
Portuguese media claimed Tuchel told him to “f*** off” on the side of the pitch. In his press conference, Tuchel giggled at Conceicao’s words, saying: “It was just a little argument with me and their coach, and everybody was following me suddenly. No harm done.”
Fourth official fury
Conceicao’s anger also extended into his domestic competition. A matter of weeks after his rants about Tuchel and Guardiola, the former winger’s pain reached a whole new level when Porto failed to overcome Portuguese minnows Moreirense.
After the match, which ended in a draw, Conceicao strode out onto the pitch to confront the officials. After being shown a red card – his fourth of that season – he continued his verbal assault on the officials.
In the end, he had to be dragged away by the fourth official and his own players. Even Pepe, the famously fiery, tough-tackling veteran, was trying to act as the peacemaker. When the former Real Madrid veteran is saying you’ve gone too far, maybe it’s time to look in the mirror.
Making an angry stand
Conceicao seemed determined to raise hell in Porto’s Portuguese Super Cup clash against fierce rivals Benfica and had an extraordinary four-minute stand off against the referee.
After Pepe received a straight red card for a reckless tackle – surprise, surprise – a raging Conceicao let the fourth official and the referee know what he thought of the decision, earning himself another red card. However, Conceicao did not move and instead planted his feet into the ground.
The referee tried to talk some sense into him but he would not go anywhere. His own players and staff members got involved but were not able to budge the stubborn Portuguese boss. With some gentle persuasion from stadium security, he did eventually trudge up into the stand like a toddler who had lost all their sweets.
Scuffling in the stands
Like any good father would, Conceicao was in the stands to watch his son, Conceicao Jr. Awkwardly, Jr was playing for Benfica’s U19s side against Porto’s equivalent.
After Conceicao Jr scored a terrific goal, the Porto boss celebrated in the stands. However, his joy turned to rage when he heard a Porto supporter hurl abuse at his son. Encompassed by his angry and fatherly instincts, Conceicao found himself fighting the supporter in the stands.
The pair had to be pulled apart and separated by stadium security and fellow supporters in the stands. The next day, he was on the front cover of Portuguese newspaper A Bola. Now that is one for the mantel piece.
