The latest development in the case of the missing brit teenager Jay Slater has been revealed – and it’s to do with the convicted drug dealer who was said to last see him before his disappearance.

The 19-year-old, who was an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared on the morning of June 17, 2024, while on holiday in Tenerife. After a long search effort by local authorities, he was found on July 15 in a remote near the village of Masca, with a post-mortem examination concluding his his death was instantaneous, and injuries were consistent with a fall. His friends and family lay him to rest in August.

However, the convicted drug dealer who was said to be the last person Jay saw before he died has now broken his silence months later. He says he had nothing to do with Jay’s disappearance and death, despite several accusations.

Ayub Qassim extended an invitation to Jay to go back to his Airbnb on the night of his disappearance. The accommodation was in the mountainous Masca region. Jay agreed and went back the final night of the NRG festival at Papagayo, in Playa de las Americas.

Both young men were accompanied by another, who went by the name of Rocky. Qassim has now appeared on a podcast, The Central Club, and revealed he has nothing to do with Jay’s death, despite months of wild conspiracy theories.

Qassim said: “The moment he [Jay] said ‘I’m going’ and I shut my door, that’s me out of this.’ Sorry I couldn’t be your foreign suspect, I apologise, it’s not me for this whole situation.”

He claims Jay did go to his accommodation, but left. Qassim, who was previously jailed for looking over an operation to supply drugs into Wales, had nothing to do with his death.

However, Qassim says he lives with “survivors guilt” and found it “annoying,” as he offered Jay a lift home that night, which he refused. The pair went for a kebab on the strip before driving back to the Airbnb where they arrived at around 6.30am-6.45am, he explained.

He and Rocky gave Jay a blanket to crash on the sofa and a phone charger. They went to bed but Jay was said to be messaging his friends worried about being back at the Airbnb.

Qassim emphasised: “He [Jay] wasn’t off his face, let’s get that clear. He might have been off his face on the NRG videos, five hours prior. I was driving, I was alright, Rocky was sleeping and he was pretty much chill.”

In the morning Qassim answered the door for his Airbnb where he was greeted with Ofelia Medina Hernandez, who asked him to move his car. Jay asked her how to get home, to which she said there was a bus he could get.

The bus never arrived, and Jay was last seen trying to walk the 10-hour journey back into Tenerife. Jay is believed to have lost his footing and fallen while trying to climb through the ravine to try and return to his hotel.
