Jamie Carragher has snapped back at Liverpool fans on social media after many gave him stick for heaping praise on Chelsea‘s Cole Palmer.
The centre-back was a one-club man, playing for the Reds 739 times and scoring five goals in a 17-year spell at the Anfield side.
He often captained Liverpool in Steven Gerrard‘s absence and lifted the Champions League trophy in 2005, as well as two FA Cups and three League Cups.
Carragher has been one of Sky Sports’ most well-known pundits for more than a decade and was in the commentary box for Chelsea’s dramatic 4-3 win at Spurs on Sunday afternoon.
But the 46-year-old came in for a barrage of criticism from supporters of his former club when he said Palmer had been the Premier League‘s best player over the last 18 months, with many slamming him for neglecting to mention Reds star Mohamed Salah.
Now Carragher has issued a brutal response to one such post on X, telling those disagreeing with him should watch the full clip of his punditry.
Jamie Carragher has hit back at Liverpool supporters who did not like his praise for Cole Palmer
The Blues star has scored 36 goals and bagged 21 assists in 62 matches since joining Chelsea
Some Reds fans believed he was ignoring Mohamed Salah who has scored 40 in that period
One account criticised the former England international by saying, ‘be serious, @Carra23. Trying way too hard’, and the pundit posted in reply: ‘Maybe you try harder at putting the full quote out!
‘I said he’s been the best player over 18 months which he has in my eyes. And you probably know I said that but your desperation for likes & retweets knows no bounds!!
‘Your account is so bad, please stop following me.’
Carragher had made a string of gushing remarks about Chelsea forward Palmer in a discussion with fellow Sky Sports pundits Paul Merson and Jamie Redknapp, and host Kelly Cates.
He said: ‘He gets the penalty and he’s involved in the [Enzo] Fernandez goal as well, there’s three or four players around him. That’s what great players do – you fear when he’s on the ball.
‘I loved him last season and he’s started this season really well.
‘I think I made a comment a few weeks ago that if you look at his last 18 months at Chelsea, I don’t think there’s been a player in the Premier League who’s performed better than him.
‘And he hasn’t been playing for the best team. I mean they look like one of the best teams in the league right now.
Carragher singled out some accounts on X who had been slamming him for his opinions
Palmer scored two penalties, including one Panenka, in a memorable 4-3 win over Spurs
He also set up Enzo Fernandez’s equaliser after going on a mazy run in Tottenham’s half
‘But when you think of Chelsea over the years and some of the great attacking players they’ve had, and they’ve had some great attacking players, when you think of those flair players I think of [Gianfranco] Zola and [Eden] Hazard, I think he’s probably done more than Zola in these 18 months.
‘Zola is probably going to go down as one of the greatest players to have ever played for Chelsea and he’s probably on that sort of level of what I’ve seen Hazard do although maybe a longer period of time, for four of five years.
‘But right now the way it’s going, if he can take Chelsea to a title whether it’s this season or the next two or three seasons he’s going to go down as one of the greatest players to ever play for Chelsea if he keeps doing what he’s doing.
‘He’s a very, very special player and not just in the Premier League but in European or world football.’
Palmer scored two penalties, including an audacious panenka for his second, and set up Fernandez’s equaliser with a mazy run which saw him drift past a couple of Spurs defenders before squaring the ball to the Argentine.
The home side had raced to an early two-goal lead thanks to mistakes from Marc Cucurella which gifted opportunities for Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski to fire home.
But Chelsea stuck to the task and soon hit their rhythm, showing the kind of slick, attacking football which has seen them become this season’s surprise package and rise to second in the table.
Jadon Sancho pulled one back before half-time, gaining a yard of space on the edge of the area before curling home.

The pundit said that Palmer could match Blues icon Eden Hazard for his impact at Chelsea
A second-half flurry saw the Blues overturn the deficit and march into a 4-2 lead as streams of home supporters left early.
Son Heung-min pulled one back for Spurs in injury time but it was not enough to spare Ange Postecoglou’s blushes, with the Australian manager feeling the pressure at the north London club.
Palmer’s brace takes his tally for Chelsea to 36 goals and 21 assists in 62 matches since he arrived at Stamford Bridge 16 months ago.
Liverpool’s Salah meanwhile has struck 40 times, securing 26 assists, in 65 games across the same period.
