Teen, 16, jailed for 12 years for tried homicide of 14-year-old ‘by mistake’
A 16-year-old boy has been jailed for 12 years for attempted murder after he attacked a 14-year-old boy – police said the attacker targeted the wrong person by mistake
A teenager has been jailed for 12 years for a “senseless” attack on a 14-year-old boy who was not the intended victim. The teen, 16, cannot be named for legal reasons but was jailed today after he was found guilty of attempted murder.
The suspect was 15 at the time of his crime in which he stabbed the victim on his doorstep on Stovell Avenue in Levenshulme, Greater Manchester on February 26 this year. The suspect was identified and arrested the following day after enquiries by North Manchester CID, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement today. The victim suffered life-changing injuries and spent two weeks in hospital following the attack.
It later emerged that the boy was not the intended victim of the attack and GMP said the “suspect believed he had a grievance with another male who was also at that address”.

Detective Constable James Carter from our North Manchester district said: “The victim is extremely fortunate to have survived this brutal attack, although he will carry the injuries for the rest of his life.
“It was a senseless attack and highlights the devastating impact of knife crime. Carrying a knife can only lead to injury, death and imprisonment – there are no positive outcomes. If you or someone you know is carrying a knife, I urge you to speak out and seek help before it is too late.”
In a statement, GMP said: “On Friday 6 December 2024, a 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to 12 years in jail for attempted murder following an investigation by our North Manchester district. He pleaded guilty following a trial at Manchester Crown Court.
“It was reported in court that the suspect, who was 15 at the time of the offence, stabbed a 14-year-old victim on his doorstep on Stovell Avenue in Levenshulme, Manchester, on 26 February 2024.
“The victim then spent two weeks in hospital and suffered life changing injuries as a result. Following enquiries by North Manchester CID the suspect was identified and arrested on 27 February 2024. He was interviewed and subsequently charged with attempted murder.
It is believed the 14-year-old victim was not the intended victim of the attack as the suspect believed he had a grievance with another male who was also at that address.”
