Business travellers reckon they save £2.5k on holidays annually with cheeky hack
More and more business people are mixing work with pleasure at their company’s expense – and some of them are even bringing their families along for a holiday too
Business travellers are turning work trips into mini holidays and reckon they’re saving a hefty £2,500 each year in the process.
A survey of 1,000 adults who jet off for work found a savvy 64% make savvy use of their overseas meetings to enjoy some leisure time without shelling out extra cash. By piggybacking on corporate-funded travel and accommodations, they’re pocketing an average of £791 on each instance, which typically happens three times annually.
Moreover, half of those surveyed have even invited their families along to maximise the clinking coins in their bank by exploring a new destination pre or post-work commitments.
The report highlighted top destinations where business mixes with pleasure: the USA, France, and Australia — all popular for their lucrative cost-saving potential. Commenting on the trend, Jack Cook, the head at Bolt Business UK behind the study, said: “It’s becoming increasingly popular for people to turn work trips into holidays, saving both money and annual leave.”
He added: “It’s not a surprise to see that people are also bringing their families along, balancing meetings with lounging by the hotel pool.”

And there’s a touch of wistfulness too, with 65% feeling pangs of regret for not extending their stays in past work trip locales.
