Fireball thriller as BMW ‘bursts into flames with out warning’ – with terrified proprietor ‘counting his blessings’
A terrified BMW owner was left in a state of shock after his car unexpectedly burst into flames outside his home.
Chris Jones from Cumbernauld, Scotland, was left ‘counting his blessings’ after his vehicle was engulfed in flames ‘without warning’.
The incident occurred on December 1 along the Spruce Road in Cumbernauld, near the city of Glasgow.
The 41-year-old had been out enjoying a meal with his parents when he received a frightening text from his neighbour which showed his car on fire.
By the time Chris had arrived home, Scottish Fire Service personnel had extinguished the blaze and secured the area.
Initially he wondered if the fire had been a purposeful arson attack, but those fears will swiftly assuaged by the fire service who ruled out any signs of foul play within hours.
Speaking to the Record, Chris said that BMW is now investigating the incident to determine the initial cause of the blaze.
He has also reached out to car dealing franchise Leaseplan whom he purchased the car from originally.

Describing the chaos of the blaze, the nutritionist spoke of what neighbours present for the fire experienced.
‘Witnesses told me that it started with sparks underneath the car and then, within a few minutes, there was a fireball. It all happened very quickly’, he said.
The 41-year-old also claimed that officers on the scene had told him that they had encountered similar problems with BMW cars over recent years.
‘It’s scary and unbelievably dangerous. To think what could have happened if me or my family were in there at the time, or if I’d switched on the ignition-it doesn’t bear thinking about’, a grateful Chris remarked.
He went on to add that with only 3,000 miles on the clock, the car was as good as new and that there had been no warning signs in the lead up to the blaze.
Speaking to the incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘Around 6.45pm on Sunday, 1 December, 2024, officers received a report of a vehicle on fire on Spruce Road, Cumbernauld. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances’.
Police Scotland have been approached for further comment on the matter.
Both BMW and Leaseplan were also contacted by the MailOnline, with BMW unable to provide comment at this time and Leaseplan have not yet responded to a request for comment.
