Gamers across the country were disappointed when the answer to their Christmas dinner prayers turned out to be a publicity stunt.

Those glued to their consoles had hoped Game’s genius ‘Christmas Tinner’ would spare them having to tear themselves away from their screens to endure festive food with family. The fictional meal included nine layers with all meals and snacks of the big day covered.

The first later was scrambled egg and bacon, the second was two mince pies, while the third consisted of turkey and potatoes. The fourth, fifth and sixth layers were gravy, bread sauce and cranberry sauce. Layer seven was brussel sprouts, eight was carrot and parsnips and the final layer finished everything off with a Christmas pudding.

At the time of the spoof, which for a while had people going, Game said: “The creation of the Christmas Tinner came after finding that 43% of gamers in the UK intend to spend the majority of the holidays on their consoles and hate having to take time away from the screen just to eat.

“”Gamers will do anything to stay live in-play… according to the research with almost half admitting they have turned down their partners in order to continue playing.”

The canned concoction caught the attention of Barry Lewis who rose to fame in 2011 for his novice cooking videos on his YouTube channel, My Virgin Kitchen.

Since then, he’s become a household name, an actual cook and an author.

Mentioning the Christmas Tinner on his website, Barry states: “It wasn’t real, but I decided to have a go at bringing it to life exactly as specified, including label. I think the steps are fairly self explanatory in the video, it’s more of an experiment to see if I could do it, the results are pretty fun and it’s certainly a unique taste!”

Barry’s step-by-step video shows each painstaking process from cutting open a can, making the ingredients, packing them back into a new can and making a label.

The end of the video sees Barry showing off the result as he pushes the mixture out of the can and shoves a slice into his mouth.

He states: “So much going on here, oh my God.”

Wincing, he adds: “It tastes like Christmas.”

“The actual strongest flavour by miles is the mince pie. Wow, and something else, I don’t know what that is…it tastes like Christmas wrapping paper.”

The video has since had over 204k views and attracted hundreds of comments.

One said: “The eggs & bacon are your Christmas Day brekkie, then the mince pie is your elevenses. You then have your main Christmas Day lunch, followed by Christmas Pud – you’re missing the cream or brandy butter, but other than that, it makes sense!!!!”

Another added: “American here. I could easily see a Thanksgiving Dinner done like this. I mean, we basically already do this on a sandwich the day after so.. Also, one of us should send Barry some big American cans.”

While one wrote: “Cheers Barry. You have somehow filled a part of my life I never knew existed with this video.”
