Mikel Arteta defended his highly-scrutinised Arsenal trophy record, referencing the two Community Shields and FA Cup he has won since joining the Gunners in 2019.
The north London club face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, where Arteta is expected to field some young players such as Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
It presents Arteta with an opportunity to end his barren run as he flexed his two Community Shield triumphs alongside the 2020 FA Cup success.
When asked about winning just one trophy in his five years at the club, Arteta responded: ‘The Charity Shield as well twice, no?
‘So it’s three (trophies). We need more. We want more and we want the big ones as well.
‘The pressure comes because we are at a big club. You want to do the best that you possibly can and that’s related to winning the major trophies and this is what we want to do.’

He believes winning this competition can have a wider influence on more silverware.
He added: ‘I think so, I fully believe in that. The fact you are winning, you get into the next round of the competition, it builds, it creates something different around the team, that’s why these kind of games are really, really important.
‘Touching a cup, beating someone in the semi-final, beating someone in the final, it generates that energy and I think it creates that right path to go and do something else – especially because of the timing and when the competition is played in this country. It gets the momentum going.’
Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber are both out injured but Declan Rice, who went off with a knock in the 0-0 draw with Everton last weekend, is expected to be available.
