Nigel Farage cosies as much as Elon Musk below Trump portrait as donation trace dropped
Nigel Farage held an hour-long meeting with billionaire X owner Elon Musk amid speculation the world’s richest man could donate to Reform UK.
The pair met at president-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida alongside the ex-Tory donor and property developer Nick Candy. Mr Candy was last unveiled as Reform UK’s new treasurer after ditching the Conservatives.
Mr Farage – on his sixth visit to the US since being elected as the MP for Clacton – posted a photo of the trio on X with a 1989 portrait of the incoming US President.
After the meeting on Monday, Mr Farage and Mr Candy said: “We had a great meeting with Elon Musk for an hour yesterday. We learned a great deal about the Trump ground game and will have ongoing discussions on other areas.
“We only have one more chance left to save the West and we can do great things together. Our thanks also to President Trump for allowing us to use Mar-A-Lago for this historic meeting. The special relationship is alive and well.”
Earlier this month the billionaire denied reports he was planning to donate £80million to Mr Farage’s party when asked by ITV News in Washington DC.
But the meeting will likely spark more rumours of a possible donation from Mr Musk, who has frequently criticised Keir Starmer’s Labour government, to Reform UK.
Responding to Mr Farage’s post – “Britain needs Reform” – the independent MP Zarah Sultana said: “Britain doesn’t need billionaires posing as champions of the working class while hijacking our democracy for their own interests.”
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) also replied: “It’s super simple. A very rich man. Backing the politicians. That will do very good things. For very rich men.”
