A former darts star has explained where players go between sets.
With the Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship in full swing, viewers from across the globe are often left asking the same question – where do players go during the comfort breaks. And Matthew Edgar has the answer.
Prime Time reached the Last 64 of the tournament back in 2021, and he’s now been spilling secrets of the Ally Pally. Speaking on his TikTok page, he said: “During the break, what are your options?
“Now you might see people walking off, you might see them staying on the stage. It’s completely up to you.” Edgar added that the referee will inform the players before the game when the comfort breaks will take place.
“I was a player who traditionally liked to stay on stage,” he continued: “You’re allowed to do that, you can stay on there and practice… you’re allowed to stand there and do whatever you want.
“So during that time, that’s your time. But what you’re probably wondering is where are the players going. Now, it’s quite boring, it’s not exciting back there and I can give you the insight into what it is.
“There is a Portakabin, we’re talking about the Alexandra Palace here by the way, in sort of like a car park area. It is cold, it is very cold! It’s not like a heated VIP room where you go in and you can sit down on a nice cushioned sofa. It is cold.
“There is a table there, you can have things on the table if you want. You can have drinks on the table, you can have snacks on the table, that is place you can go off and have refreshments or do what you need to do!
“And that is it! It is a very cold space!” Edgar notes how you’re likely to see players trying to warm themselves back up when they return to the stage because of the notable temperature difference.
