Roy Keane tells Marcus Rashford what Man Utd switch choice to make however has ‘warning’
Roy Keane has advised wantaway Manchester United star Marcus Rashford on his future but has issued his “only warning” to the star axed by Ruben Amorim
Roy Keane has told Marcus Rashford he will never get his hunger back unless he leaves Manchester United.
Rashford stunned English football this week when revealing he wants to quit United and seek a new challenge elsewhere. The forward was axed from Ruben Amorim‘s squad for last weekend’s Manchester derby and has not played for England since a substitute appearance against Brazil in March.
Reports suggest Amorim will speak to Rashford – and is keen to keep him at Old Trafford. But former United favourite Keane believes the 27-year-old won’t be able to be the player he was once, unless he gets away from the English giants.
Speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Keane said: “My only warning for players like that, he [Rashford] has all those traits as a footballer.
“If you lose that hunger, it’s hard to get it back. We know that for great players, it’s nothing to do with money. It’s about the next challenge, and your pride. Marcus seems to have lost his way, and he’s lost his hunger.
“We’ve mentioned watches and all the stuff off the field, and if he’s a bit distracted by that, it might be hard to get it back. He might get it back with a change of club and scenery, but I don’t think he’ll get the hunger back at United.”
Keane reckons Rashford should choose a club abroad for his next move. He added: “Sometimes a deal just works for everybody. It’s been going on for a year or two now, there’s obviously a bit of talent there and he’s been at the club since he was a kid.
“A change would probably do him a world of good, for him and his team and family to go abroad.”
