A massive snowstorm is set to blanket England this weekend, offering a chance for many parts of the country to see some festive flakes just days before Christmas. Brutal WXCHARTs weather maps have turned various shades of purple, indicating that heavy snow is imminent in the latest big freeze.

From north to south, around 22 counties could be blanketed with snow in just a few days. At 9pm on Saturday, December 21, West Morland, Lancashire and Yorkshire may see up to 1cm of snowfall per hour.

As we move into the early hours of Sunday, December 22, Cheshire, Stafford and Derby could all witness a dumping of snow, with depths predicted to reach up to 2cm. At 6am, Oxford, Buckinghamshire and large parts of the North West could wake up to a blanket of snow.

Large parts of Wales and Scotland will also experience heavy snowfall this weekend, reports the Express. The yellow weather warning includes areas such as Northants, Surrey, Sussex, Greater London, Essex, Suffolk, Huntingdon and Peterborough, Leicester, Rutland, Buckinghamshire, and Cambridge and Isle of Ely – with the possibility of spray, flooding, and difficult travel conditions.
