Manchester United‘s travelling supporters made their stance on Marcus Rashford crystal clear when they unfurled a banner during their defeat at Tottenham.

Rashford, 27, who has seen his behaviour scrutinised by manager Ruben Amorim, was conspicuously absent from the squad for the second fixture in just five days as United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in a thrilling 4-3 encounter.

The England ace’s performances have failed to impress and Rashford sparked transfer speculation when he dropped a huge bombshell this week by declaring he wants a new challenge.

The Red Devils’ fans seem ready for the homegrown star to move on after his considerable dip in form, despite pocketing significant wages, with a banner that stated: “Excuses. Ta ra Marcus”.

The displayed banner is reminiscent of the one featured in 1989 by determined United fans, suggesting Sir Alex Ferguson’s managerial reign was finished, with the infamous message: “Three years of excuses and it’s still crap. Ta Ra Fergie”

Amorim asserted that Rashford’s exclusion ahead of the kick-off at Spurs was merely down to selection reasons, following the English forward’s absence from the line-up for Sunday’s Manchester derby, reports the Mirror.

Rashford had said earlier in the week: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.”

He added: “If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

In light of Rashford’s remarks, Amorim responded by affirming the player’s importance to the team: “We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple, and we will try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past.
