Baby discovered useless in a caravan as police arrest 41-year-old man on suspicion of neglect

A 41-year-old man has been arrested after a four-month-old baby was found dead in a caravan.

Police were called to Yealmpton, in Devon, over concerns for the welfare of the occupants of a caravan on Wednesday, December, 18.

The force said the baby was treated by ambulance crews but was confirmed dead at the scene.

A man from Plymouth has been arrested for criminal offences including child neglect. He was taken into police custody and bailed pending further enquiries.

DI Dave Egan said: ‘The death of a young baby is devastating, and our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.

‘A criminal investigation has been launched following the death and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and how the death has occurred.

‘I know that an incident of this nature will cause concern amongst the community, but I must ask that you do not speculate about this matter.’
