Brits to neck 700million pints in booziest Christmas for years – and we’ll begin early

Boozy Brits will get sozzled from the morning on Christmas Day – as we knock back 700 million pints in the booziest Christmas for years.

Revellers went wild on Black Eye Friday after finishing work and receiving their final paychecks of 2024. Now, with Christmas Day family-get-togethers in full swing Brits will hit the bottle from 11.45am, a Masons Yorkshire Gin study said.

Drinkaware said: “The festive season is jolly, with celebrations with families and friends. But keeping track of your drinking and staying in control will help you enjoy it more.”

This December is expected to see the highest amount of beer consumed in any month since at least 2019.

After then, Covid restrictions, then rail strikes, then inflation and the peak of the cost of living crisis last Christmas lowered pub trade.

British Beer and Pub Association data trends predict 350 million pints will be sold in pubs with another 350 million pints at home supped this December.

Pals’ booze-ups, office parties and sofa sessions at home with family and friends are sending beer sales rocketing.

Crisis-hit pubs are toasting a £2billion spending spree.

Michael Brandy, of Voucher Codes, which studied pub spending at Christmas said: “After pubs have seen tough times and rising costs, many Brits are visiting hospitality venues to celebrate with friends, family and colleagues.”
