This is the moment that a couple’s seemingly romantic Christmas proposal video was ruined by a gruesome detail occurring in just a split second.
Occurring in New York City, one couple had their forever moment caught on camera in a beautiful setting – or so they thought.
The couple are both seen smiling together underneath a twinkling Christmas tree, before the camera pans to take in The Big Apple and the surrounding bright lights.
Just prior to surprising his wife-to-be by getting down on one knee and asking her to take his hand in marriage, the video is decimated by the sight of a rat running from underneath the Christmas tree.
The camera then awkwardly pans away to another mass of buildings before coming to an abrupt end.
Posted by the user @papermiishe on the social media platform, the video has been viewed over 5,000 times since it was published on December 5.
Reacting to the video in the comments section, users took the chance to point out how the rat inadvertently spoiled the couple’s big moment.
One commented: ‘The rat like omg it’s happening it’s happening’.

It comes after a man lost his wife’s proposal ring in the water while making the big move by a lake.
Earlier this year, McKenna Hiller – who is a New York-based model – was asked by her future brother-in-law to film the proposal on her phone.
The video opens with her sister’s boyfriend – who was dressed smartly in a red shirt and cream chinos – getting down on one knee as they stood together on a jetty.
After caressing her boyfriend’s face, McKenna’s sister says ‘of course I will’ and spins round to see her family’s reaction – but accidentally knocked the ring box out of her partner’s hand by mistake.

Collapsing into a fit of giggles, the bride-to-be says: ‘Oh s**t!’
Luckily for the couple, McKenna was quick to react – and didn’t pause for thought before jumping in the water to retrieve it.
She said: ‘My instinct as the little sister was to jump right in!’
But as she dives into the water, McKenna then knocked over a bottle of beer – prompting someone off camera to say: ‘This is typical us!”
Thanks to her quick reactions, McKenna was able to rescue the diamond engagement ring before it floated away.
The video then ends with the couple being reunited with the ring and sharing a quick kiss.
