Fireball hell leaves at the least 38 lifeless after bus ploughs into lorry in Brazil
A packed bus colliding with a lorry in Brazil before bursting into flames has resulted in at least 38 deaths.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the horror smash was a “terrible tragedy”. Harrowing images have been shared showing the burnt out bus on the side of the road.
The bus was carrying 45 passengers before it erupted into famles when a tyre blew out. According to witnesses, this malfunction sent the bus out of control.
The driver reportedly attempted to keep the motor on the road before it smashed into an oncoming lorry. This led to the deaths of the driver and passengers after the vehicle smashed off the concrete road before sparking an inferno.
Onlookers have said the bus hit into a granite block when it spiralled out of control.
The local fire department said 13 people were rushed to a hospital in the eastern state of Minais Gerais.
Mr da Silva said in a statement: “I deeply regret and send my prayers to the families of the more than 30 fatalities from the accident in Teofilo Otoni, Minas Gerais. I pray for the recovery of the survivors of this terrible tragedy.”
Local governor Romeu Zema wrote on X that he had ordered “full mobilisation” of the Minas Gerais government to help the loved ones of the victims, as reported in The Mirror.
