Ruben Amorim is under ‘no pressure’ from chiefs at Manchester United to leave Marcus Rashford on the sidelines after the 27-year-old’s bombshell interview

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under no pressure from club bosses to leave Marcus Rashford on the sidelines.

Rashford is in the bad books at United after revealing he wants to leave Old Trafford. The England forward went public with his desire to quit United after being axed from the squad for the recent derby win at the Etihad.

Rashford, 27, was also left out for last week’s defeat at Tottenham and Sunday’s humiliating home loss to Bournemouth. But United chiefs including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and chief executive Omar Barrada have refused to get involved in team selection.

It’s understood Amorim has been left to deal with Rashford, and has refused to involve him due to poor performances in training. And Amorim has told Rashford he will not recall him to the squad until his attitude improves.

The scenario is now in danger of turning toxic, as United wrestle with the dilemma of what to do with one of their most high-profile and highest paid stars. Amorim will not want to keep someone who is not contributing to the squad.

One option would be to loan him out in next month’s transfer window, but United would still have to subsidise the player’s £350,000-a-week wages.

While a permanent move in the summer could prove difficult, considering the size of Rashford’s contract and fact United would demand a fee in the region of £40m. Rashford has scored just seven goals in 24 appearances this season.

He would prefer a move to Europe instead of Saudi or the United States, in a bid to win back his place on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
