Liverpool have issued an urgent statement ahead of their Premier League clash with Leicester.

Arne Slot’s side welcome the Foxes to Anfield for the evening kick off, and club chiefs are confident that the match will go ahead without the need for a pitch inspection despite thick fog descending on Merseyside.

As of 4.30pm, there’s been no pitch inspection, and the club’s LFC Help account on X posted: “If you are coming to the match today, please ensure you set off earlier than usual due to foggy conditions in and around Anfield stadium. Please take care when travelling.”

The weather boffins at the Met Office aren’t offering much hope for a clear-up, warning that the fog is here to stay for the evening: “Remaining cloudy this evening and overnight with patchy rain and drizzle, especially over higher ground.

“Turning foggy in places with generally murky conditions for many. Staying frost-free with light winds across the region. Minimum temperature 4 °C.”

Slot’s squad have already had one fixture cancelled this season when Storm Darragh chucked the Merseyside derby into chaos.

After Thursday’s game, Liverpool are off down to London to face West Ham United on Sunday, before hosting Manchester United at Anfield on January 5.

Tranmere Rovers have had to put their clash with Accrington Stanley on ice thanks to some seriously thick fog. Their meet-up at Prenton Park was meant to get going at 3pm, but got the axe just after 2pm instead, reports the Liverpool Echo.
