Luis Diaz sends Liverpool switch message amid Mohamed Salah contract talks
Liverpool star Luis Diaz has hailed his Colombian international teammate Jhon Duran who has produced a number of eye catching performances this term for Aston Villa
Liverpool star Luis Diaz is in no doubt an international teammate of his has the potential to become “the best striker”.
The Colombian has been in excellent form this season for the Reds, bagging 11 goals across 23 matches, the most recent of which came in Liverpool’s thrilling 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Diaz has emerged as a pivotal player for Arne Slot’s squad, contributing significantly to an attack spearheaded by Mohamed Salah – with the Reds sitting top of the Premier League and unbeaten in the Champions League. Yet, Diaz acknowledges there’s plenty of talent in the Premier League too; he’s been singing praises for his compatriot Jhon Duran, who boasts an impressive 12 goals in 25 matches, reports the Mirror.
Speaking to ESPN, Diaz hailed Duran, saying: “From day one that I met him, that I dealt with him and that I saw him play, I already knew the conditions and qualities he had.
“First I said [if] this boy if he sets his mind to it can become very big, he can become history in the role he has. He can be the best striker. It’s good that he’s living a great moment, that he’s doing well, that he’s shining in a super spectacular league.”
He added: “I’m very happy for him, we shared a lot in the national team, he’s a very calm boy. He lets himself go, but if he has to listen, he does it too. He’s in the process of continuing to learn like every boy, so he’ll continue to improve in what is left of his career and he’ll continue to score goals, he’ll continue to take the country high. He deserves it very much.”
Diaz’s Duran comments may resonate with Liverpool as they look towards the summer, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding Salahs contract situation and Darwin Nunez’s enduring role at the club.
Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has recently put forward that Liverpool should consider a move for the 21-year-old sensation Duran sooner rather than later. “Jhon Duran is a brilliant player and the way he plays, it always helps having a player with a physical presence up front,” Hamann recently told BoyleSports.
“He created space up front and made a huge impact for Villa [against City] I certainly think Liverpool need to keep an eye on him.”
