Plymouth fans are losing their patience with Wayne Rooney.

It wasn’t a Merry Christmas down on the south coast as the Pilgrims slumped to a 4-0 loss away from home against Coventry. And some fans even took to social media to call for Rooney’s head at half-time.

“Enough of this now! Sack Rooney tonight and start taking football matters seriously and hire a manager and sign some players,” one fan fumed. While a second said: “Let’s have it right though, the club doesn’t sack Rooney. He walks. He doesn’t need this!”

“If you don’t sack Rooney immediately you might as well prepare for life in League One,” a third fumed. While a fourth posted: “Plymouth needs to sack Rooney. Bro relegated Birmingham City last season to League One.”

And another added: “I don’t care if we occasionally put in a good performance at home. This team is so poorly coached and sets up every week without a plan. Sack Rooney now!”

Tatsuhiro Sakumoto was the man to fire Coventry ahead in the opening five minutes before Ephron Mason-Clark scored in between two Josh Eccles goals to send Lampard’s men four goals to the good at half-time.

Rooney was serenanded with “sacked in the morning” chants from the home fans after Callum Wright was sent off for Plymouth in the 87th minute having only come on in the 37th minute of the game.

Plymouth are rooted to the foot of the table, three points from safety.
