Duo of their 40s suspected of raping teenage man close to Brighton Harry Ramsden’s

Sussex Police has confirmed the arrest of two men aged 40 and 42 in connection to the rape of a 19-year-old near a Brighton fish and chip shop last Saturday, December 21

An investigation into the rape of a teenage man has led to the arrest of two suspects. Sussex Police have described the arrests as being the “direct result of excellent work”.

The 19-year-old victim reported being approached by two unknown men near Harry Ramsdens, in Old Steine, Brighton at around 3.30am on Saturday 21 December. He alleges the pair raped him in nearby Steine Lane shortly afterwards.

The victim who continues to receive support from specialist officers, managed to get help from a passer-by, who called dialled 999 after the attack.

Following enquiries, a 40-year-old man from Redhill, Surrey, was arrested in Esher, Surrey; and a 42-year-old man from Chessington, Kingston-Upon-Thomas, was arrested in Ramsgate, Kent.

Both men were arrested on Thursday 26 December on suspicion of rape. They remain in police custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Sean Booth said: “These arrests were as a direct result of excellent work from our dedicated team of staff, officers and the public.
