Tributes pour in as champion boxer dies aged 35 after haunting final Instagram submit
Boxer, Paul Bamba who was managed by singer Ne-Yo, had just won gold at his last fight six days before his death, and tributes are pouring in from friends and fans
Boxer and internet personality Paul Bamba has died, aged 35.
The tragic news was shared by Bamba’s family and manager, Ne-Yo, in a joint statement. The 45-year shared a post to his Instagram feed, reading: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives.
“He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness. But more than anything, he was a tremendous individual that inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination.”
The statement continued: “We are heartbroken by his passing and kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief.”
The news comes just six days after the Puerto-Rican star won the WBA Gold Cruserweight title, defeating Mexican Rogelio Medina. The 35-year-old secured the world title in New Jersey, later sharing his victory to social media.
In a black-and-white montage-style post uploaded to his Instagram feed, Bamba shared the news of his incredible record. The caption read: “This year I set out with a goal. I did just that!
“Wasn’t easy there were many obstacles that I adapted to overcame and kept on the path we set regardless of extenuating circumstances. 14 fights 14 knockouts ending with the WBA GOLD cruiserweight world title.”
Tributes have since poured in to the late star’s comments section, from fans and friends alike. Famous faces such as DJ Tom Zanetti and celebrity boxing coach Freddy Anthony Rodriguez shared their heartfelt tributes, with Rodriguez writing: “Unbelievable Message and goal set in your last moments God bless you brother. Rest Well”
TV personality Monyetta Shaw also added: “I’m so very sorry to hear this! Praying for you and all of his loved ones. RIP Champ Bamba”.
Jake Paul, who Bamba was set to fight in future shared a simple tribute on X, writing: “RIP Paul Bamba.”
