‘The Mirror is asking to cease unregulated cowboys from ruining extra lives with botched procedures’

Each year hundreds of women receive life-changing injuries as a result of botched procedures by beauty clinics.

In a few tragic cases, people have died at the hands of rogue operators. That is why the Mirror is campaigning to stop unregulated cowboys from ruining even more lives.

Our call is backed by industry experts, leading medical organisations and politicians from across the political divide.

It also has the backing of the public. As our poll today reveals, an overwhelming majority believe procedures such as Brazilian butt lifts and liposuction should only be carried out by fully qualified medical experts.

There is near-unanimous support for our demand that clinics offering such treatments should be licensed and fully insured.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has described the industry as the “Wild West” and indicated he is minded to bring in new regulations. We would urge him to act quickly.

When it comes to public support, he is knocking at an open door.

War on gangs

Three more people yesterday joined the death toll of those who have perished trying to cross the Channel.

So far this year 76 people have lost their lives trying to reach England in small boats. This tragic statistic underlines the need to tackle the criminal gangs behind this deadly trade.

Although the government has made some progress, including signing deals with a number of Balkan states to intercept the gangs, it is clear that more must be done.

The public want a border system that is effective but also compassionate.

It’s scrawl over

The writing has been on the wall for some time.

Exam bosses claim pupils do so much work on computers these days that their handwriting is almost illegible. Apparently, they can no longer read between the lines.
